Art Deco, born in the 1920s, was a movement that celebrated the rising mechanised world that simultaneously represented modernity and the future. Influencing movies such Berkeley and LeRoy’s Gold Diggers of 1933, where grand sets and huge musical numbers, all within that distinctive Art Deco style, indicated that excess was fashionable. In fact, not only was it fashionable, it was plentiful. Although Art Deco remained a dominant style throughout the 30s, it served as a bittersweet monument of a better time; a reminder of the years of wealth and decadence.
